Pregnancy Yoga

An introduction to the Yoga classes for pregnancy

The classes consist of gentle yoga based exercises with relaxation and breathing awareness. In the classes through movement and positions I sometimes will incorporate the labour experience so you can discover how to ‘help yourself cope with the labour’. Active Birth is about educating yourself mentally and physically to improve your birth experience and make it positive and I hope through my yoga classes and workshops this can be achieved. I also hope that you have some fun and make some new friends. One to one classes can also be arranged.

Antenatal yoga classes are specifically tailored for pregnancy. The classes include gentle yoga postures, breathing for relaxation and techniques for labour covering breathing and positions for 1st and 2nd stage. Strengthening the pelvic floor muscles, which will assist in the birth and information concentrating on aspects relevant to pregnancy, labour and birth.

Yoga has a particularly positive effect on the stresses and strains that sometimes come with pregnancy and can help relieve backache, indigestion, tiredness, constipation and other complaints. No previous experience of yoga is necessary.

At the end of the class we have refreshments with discussion. Sometimes a mother will return with her new baby to tell us her birth story. I also arrange for complementary therapists to talk about the various benefits for pregnancy and birth also independent midwives to answer questions and breastfeeding advisors.
